The Treatment of Facial Nerve Palsy Using Taping Therapy : Case Report

Abstract
Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of Taping Therapy with oriental medical treatment in facial nerve palsy.

Methods: This clinical study was carried out 7 cases of facial nerve palsy patients which had been admitted in Dong-Shin university oriental hospital from September, 2004 to November, 2004. In this study the patients were treated by Taping Therapy. Other treatments were acupunture, herbal medication, rehabilitative therapy. H-B scale(House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system) was measured from admission to discharge.

Results: In the results, the symptoms were improved gradually.
1. The average of H-B scale was increased from 2.57 to 6.14.
2. Several patients were treated by oriental medical treatments without western medication, but there was no significant difference between the group treated by western medication and not.
3. The treatment period was between 5 weeks from 3 weeks. The treatment period is more shortened compared to the existing period(12 weeks).

Conclusions: In the study, The treatment of facial nerve palsy using Taping Therapy was more effective, especially H-B scale and treatment period, compared to existing.
